Flamenco Basics - Absolute Beginner Course 🍁

🍁 Entry-Level Flamenco Dance Course (8 Weeks)

Wednesdays, 7:45–8:45 pm
September 10–October 29 | Happy Soul Dance Studios | Halifax
Taught by Maria Osende

Flamenco is more than just movement — it’s passion, rhythm, and soul. In this welcoming 8-week course designed for absolute beginners, you’ll explore the beauty of this powerful Spanish art form through expressive arm work, percussive footwork, and the infectious energy of flamenco rhythms.

No dance experience? No problem. Just bring your curiosity, an open heart, and a desire to move.

✨ What You’ll Experience

  • The beautiful movement of the hands and arms — full of expression
  • Rhythmic footwork (zapateado) that builds coordination, strength, and timing
  • Clapping and rhythm (compás) — the heartbeat of flamenco
  • Basic flamenco steps (marcajes) and combinations to tie it all together
  • A simple, beginner-friendly choreography to bring everything into motion

Expect fun, challenge, connection, and a weekly dose of Spanish flair!

👣 Who This Course Is For

This course is perfect if you:

  • Have never danced flamenco before
  • Have less than 6 months of flamenco experience and want to build solid foundations
  • Are returning to flamenco after a break and want a fresh re-start
  • Are an experienced dancer looking to revisit the basics and get more practice

What to Wear

For men and women. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
For shoes, sturdy low heels or hard-soled shoes work great (flamenco shoes are optional for beginners).
No flamenco skirt required, although feel free to dress flamenco style if you like, all you need is energy and enthusiasm.

While flamenco shoes are recommended, especially for those progressing in their journey, beginners are not required to have them initially. Focus on your comfort and gradual immersion into the art form before considering specialized footwear. As you advance, flamenco shoes may become a valuable addition to enhance your dance experience.
