FlamencošŸ’ƒšŸ» šŸŽ¦šŸŒ·Upper Body Technique & Marcajes (Open Level)

Multilevel class offered in-person and simultaneously via Zoom

A great option for all levels wishing to dedicate exclusive attention to their upper body, overall presence and style. Join in!

Weekly on Mondays, 30 Minute Class, Mondays 7.35-8.05

April 8 - May 13

Through repetition and sequencing, students will learn and work on arms, hands, torso and hips, which are so important in flamenco dance. The class is intended to build up strength and solidify technique for dancers of all levels. Dance requires repetition and muscle memory. Often the complexity of the footwork overshadows the attention needed on the upper body. This is an opportunity to focus primarily on the upper body and expression, which are truly the most important aspects of flamenco dance.

Although flamenco footwork seems and is hard to master, the truth is that flamenco hands, arms and upper body are the hardest part to master in flamenco, and the one that gets forgotten first when students are having trouble memorizing or executing the footwork.

The exercises simultaneously work on upper body technique through repetition and on developing muscle memory. We will work with different musical styles including solea and alegrias among others, to better understand the intentions and character of the different palos.

Flamenco aims to express emotion and in this class we will also work on understanding the meaning of flamenco movements, the relationship between all the components that create a motion, as well as the artistic intention behind them.

This class can be done without flamenco shoes if preferred or from home.

Through repetition and sequencing, we will work on the main arm, hand, shoulder and torso positions in flamenco as well as the hips. The class will also be fun! We will put our technique to work and groove with repetitions to flamenco music to get comfortable in our skin feeling the flamenco music, getting inspired and letting it take over our movements and sensations.
